Nationally acclaimed artist honors Carters during 2008 CWP
Lori Gordon, nationally acclaimed artist and local resident, recently presented former President Carter with "Habitat," a work of art created with storm debris from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Gordon became nationally recognized for the Katrina collection, a series of works created from the remains of the 2005 storm.
The work was presented to the Carters during their recent visit to Diamondhead, as they visited volunteers and partner families during the 2008 Carter Work Project. Ten homes were built in the Holiday Village area in five days. |

In a letter that accompanied the work, Gordon wrote, "I wish to thank you and Mrs. Carter for your lifetime's work. The creation of this piece from The Katrina Collection is my only means of doing so. On behalf of Habitat Bay Waveland and my entire community, please accept our deepest gratitude."
A limited number of posters were made of the work and are available for purchase from Lori Gordon. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Bay-Waveland Area Habitat for Humanity. |
