Habitat Dedicates Its 75th home
Three years after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the lives of Mississippi Gulf Coast residents, Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 75th house in Hancock County. The 75th house is located in the city of Waveland, an area that suffered a devastating blow from the hurricane. Waveland is also where Habitat built its first Hancock County house after the storm.
“This house is a symbol of our commitment to Waveland and all the residents of Hancock County,” said Wendy McDonald, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Bay-Waveland Area. “This job is far from over, and we’re here till the it gets done.” |

Since 2006, nearly 3000 volunteers have come to build homes in Hancock County, Mississippi. The work has grown steadily. Between May and July of 2008 alone, more than 500 Habitat volunteers built 19 homes in the County.
"At a time when people needed it the most, Habitat for Humanity stepped up to the plate, giving many the opportunity to be homeowners,” commented Waveland’s Mayor, Tommy Longo. “They simply
would not have had this opportunity were it not for Habitat."
